Classic Bangers and Mash with Rich Onion Gravy

Ingredients:

8 pork sausages (traditional British bangers)

4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/2 cup milk (or more, as needed)

Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Onion Gravy:

2 large onions, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef or chicken broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

Step 1: Cook the Sausages

In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over medium-high heat. Add the sausages and cook, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through, about 12-15 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Step 2: Make the Mashed Potatoes

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the potatoes and cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain well.

Mash the potatoes with butter and milk until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and keep warm.

Step 3: Prepare the Onion Gravy

In the same skillet used for cooking sausages, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until softened and lightly caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.

Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir well to coat. Cook for another minute.

Gradually pour in the broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and bring to a simmer. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 4: Serve

To serve, spoon mashed potatoes onto plates or bowls. Arrange sausages on top and pour generous amounts of onion gravy over everything.

Enjoy your classic Bangers and Mash with rich onion gravy!
