Fried Chicken and Mashed Potatoes 🍗🥔🧈
For the Fried Chicken:
Ingredients:
4-6 bone-in, skin-on chicken pieces (thighs, drumsticks, or breasts) 🍗
2 cups buttermilk 🥛
2 cups all-purpose flour 🌾
1 teaspoon paprika 🌶️
1 teaspoon garlic powder 🧄
1 teaspoon onion powder 🧅
1 teaspoon dried thyme 🌿
Salt and pepper to taste 🧂
Vegetable oil for frying 🛢️
Instructions:
Marinate the Chicken: 🥛 In a large bowl, pour the buttermilk over the chicken pieces. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for the best flavor).
Prepare the Coating: 🌾 In a large bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Coat the Chicken: 🍗 Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour.
Fry the Chicken: 🔥 Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer over medium-high heat (about 350°F / 175°C). Fry the chicken in batches for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should be 165°F / 75°C).
Drain and Serve: 🍗 Remove the fried chicken and let it drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
For the Mashed Potatoes:
Ingredients:
4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks 🥔
1/2 cup milk 🥛
1/4 cup butter 🧈
Salt and pepper to taste 🧂
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional) 🌿
Instructions:
Boil the Potatoes: 🥔 In a large pot, cover the potato chunks with water and bring to a boil. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
Mash the Potatoes: 🥄 Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter and milk, then mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve: 🍽️ Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve alongside the fried chicken.
