### Ingredients


- **For the Cake:**

  - 2 tablespoons lemon zest (from about 2 lemons)

  - ½ cup buttermilk (or whole milk)

  - 1 cup powdered sugar

  - 2-3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice


### Directions


#### For the Cake:


1. **Preheat the oven** to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan or an 8-inch round cake pan.

2. **In a medium bowl**, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

3. **In a large bowl**, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

4. **Add the eggs**, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract and lemon zest.

5. **Combine the lemon juice** with the buttermilk. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in three parts, alternating with the buttermilk and lemon juice mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

6. **Pour the batter** into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

7. **Bake** for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

8. **Cool the cake** in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.


#### For the Lemon Glaze:


1. In a small bowl, **whisk together** the powdered sugar and lemon juice until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more lemon juice if needed.

2. **Pour the glaze** over the cooled cake, letting it drizzle down the sides.

3. **Allow the glaze to set** for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
