Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding

Ingredients:

For the Pudding:

6 cups day-old bread, cubed (French bread, brioche, or white bread)

2 cups whole milk

½ cup heavy cream

¾ cup granulated sugar

3 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon cinnamon

¼ teaspoon nutmeg

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup raisins (optional)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

For the Vanilla Sauce:

½ cup unsalted butter

½ cup granulated sugar

½ cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

Preheat & Prep:

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8-inch or 9x13-inch baking dish.

Place cubed bread in the prepared dish. If using raisins, sprinkle them over the bread.

Make the Custard:

In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

Pour the mixture evenly over the bread, pressing down slightly to ensure all pieces soak up the liquid.

Drizzle melted butter over the top. Let sit for 15-20 minutes.

Bake:

Bake for 40-45 minutes (for 8x8-inch pan) or 50-55 minutes (for 9x13-inch pan) until golden brown and set in the center.

Let cool slightly before serving.

Make the Vanilla Sauce:

In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.

Stir in sugar and heavy cream, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens slightly (about 3-5 minutes).

Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

Serve:

Drizzle warm vanilla sauce over the bread pudding.

Serve warm and enjoy!
