Puff Pastry Sausage Rolls
Ingredients:
1 lb (450g) ground sausage (pork, chicken, or turkey)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 small onion, finely diced
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Optional: sesame seeds for garnish
Directions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare the Sausage Filling:
In a large bowl, mix the ground sausage, breadcrumbs, diced onion, garlic, parsley, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Prepare the Puff Pastry:
Roll out each sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to ensure it's smooth and even. Cut each sheet into 2 equal rectangles (you'll have 4 rectangles total).
Assemble the Rolls:
Divide the sausage mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a log and place it lengthwise down the center of each puff pastry rectangle.
Seal the Rolls:
Brush one edge of the puff pastry with the beaten egg. Fold the pastry over the sausage filling, pressing the edges together to seal. Place the rolls seam-side down on the baking sheet.
Cut and Glaze:
Using a sharp knife, slice each roll into 2-inch pieces (or smaller, if desired). Brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if using.
Bake:
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed, and the sausage is fully cooked.
Serve:
Let the sausage rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauce.
