Grilled Cheeseburger with Caramelized Onions and Special Sauce

Ingredients

For the Burger Patty:

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend preferred)

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp garlic powder

For the Toppings:

4 slices cheddar cheese

1 large onion, sliced into rings

1 tbsp butter

1 tbsp olive oil

2 burger buns, toasted

For the Special Sauce:

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1 tbsp ketchup

1 tsp mustard

1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)

Optional Garnish:

Crispy fried onions or breadcrumbs for crunch

Instructions

Burger Patties:

Preheat grill or skillet over medium-high heat.

Season the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Form into two patties, slightly larger than the buns to account for shrinkage.

Cook patties for 3-4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness. Place cheddar cheese slices on top during the last minute to melt.

Caramelized Onions:

Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Add onion rings and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized (about 10-15 minutes).

Special Sauce:

In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and smoked paprika. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Assemble the Burger:

Spread the special sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun.

Place the cooked burger patty with melted cheese on top.

Add a generous layer of caramelized onions.

Sprinkle with crispy fried onions or breadcrumbs for texture (optional).

Top with the other half of the bun.

Serve hot and enjoy your gourmet cheeseburger!
